It looks as thought spring is finally here. The Senior class is wrapping up their high school careers.  The rest of us will keep plugging along until June.

10th Grade English-  We have finished To Kill a Mockingbird.  My students finished the unit with a project.  They were given the choice of six projects and were to choose the one that they had the most interest in doing.  The variety they turned it was fantastic.  I have begun to grade them, but it will take me a little while as the requirements were numerous.  This week begins a short unit on Short Stories.  I hope to get in one more novel before the end of the year.  Thank you students for you hard work on the projects.  I will post a few pictures as soon as I am done grading them.

12th Grade English- The end is near.  Don't wait until the last minute to try and get work in.  Please don't get a case of Senioritis.  We will be finishing up Hunger Games this week.  We will follow it with a final test and the movie.  The last week for the Senior class will be hectic.  We will type and bind the Memoirs, review for the exam, take the exam, and say goodbye.

Economics- We are working from the book this unit.  Almost all of the information will come from the book or a Power Point.  There may be some worksheets in there somewhere, but book questions will be a plenty for homework and classwork.  I was rather impressed with the last test for Unit 2.  Scores were up quite a bit.  Thank you for you diligent studying.

Spring Break and beyond--

Spring is here!  (maybe).  I just wanted to update what my classes are currently doing.
English 10- is just finishing up To Kill a Mockingbird.  The week back from break should be the end of the novel.  We will have a test and some sort of end writing assignment.

English 12- students are reading The Hunger Games. We should be finishing up part 1 upon return from break.  I have set students up as a lit. circle, so they are working in groups.  Please make sure you are at school. you don't want to let your group down.

Economics- Econ. has been working with demand and demand curves.  We will pick back up where we left off when we return from break.  Once we review demand after break, we will begin working with supply.

Have a great Spring Break!!!

Snowy Spring Greetings!

A quick update for my classes.

English 10- We are in the middle of reading To Kill a Mockingbird. It is a lot of in class work.  We are doing a bell ringer each day, reading or listening to the novel, and an exit ticket when the hour is done.  There are easy points to be had just by following along and knowing what has happened each day when we are done reading.  We will be reading this novel for approximately two more weeks.

English 12- We have finished The Glass Castle  and are in the process of working on their own memoirs.  We have done six entries so far and will continue to add to our collection until the Seniors are almost done.  We will then compile them and bind them.  It will be worth a lot of points are part of a Senior project.  We will be starting Hunger Games in the next week.

Economics- we have a test this Monday.  I will try to attach the Power Point that went with the unit review.

Conference Week!

English 10- We started reading To Kill a Mockingbird. It is not an easy read, so we will be taking our time and listening to some as well as reading aloud.  There are a lot of points available for this novel as long as the students do the reading or follow along with the reading.

English 12- We are coming to a close with the memoir The Glass Castle. Most of my students have really enjoyed this novel. They have even read ahead for fun!  Once we complete the novel we will begin writing the Senior's own memoirs.  I hope we will have 20 pages to go in the final draft.  This project will be from now until the end of the school year.  We will work on it at different times.

Economics- We have just begun Econ.  Students will need to really focus on this as it is pretty new information to them.  We have spent several days working with opportunity costs.  Ask your student what kind of trade off they made today.  What is the opportunity cost of that choice you just made?  No test coming up as of yet.  We have had a vocabulary quiz, but not much in the grade book as we have spent a lot of time working with terminology. we watched a short Youtube clip on opportunity costs.  I will offer 5 extra credit points to anyone that makes a short video using opportunity costs. (2-5 minutes)

Beginning of second semester

Snowy Greetings!  I wanted to update my blog, but ran out of time with the end of the semester.

10th Grade English- we are continuing to better writing skills especially 5 paragraph essays.  Students will be asked to write a 5 paragraph essay for next years big tests.  We are working to develop those skills.  The biggest hurdle we need to overcome is paragraph length.  Many students don't want to put in the extra effort to make a paragraph that is acceptable in length. It is very hard to persuade anyone when the paragraphs are only three sentences.  We will continue to focus on five paragraph essays throughout the year.  My tenth grade classes will begin reading To Kill a Mockingbird in the next few weeks.

13th Grade English- The Senior classes are continuing to read The Glass Castle. Upon completion of the memoir, students will be asked to write their own memoir.  This will brush up on writing skills and also give meaning to their work.  This will be an ongoing project and finish just before graduation.  I am hoping to have 20-30 pages of memoir finished by then.

Economics- We have just finished  up Civics.  We began by taking a pre-test to see if anyone is able to test out of econ.  That was not case this semester.  We began our first unit yesterday.  I explained that knowing the vocabulary will be very important to student success.  I have printed out vocabulary sheets that we will stop and fill in as new terms come up. If any parents would like an email  to notify them of upcoming test, please let me know.

Have a good Winterfest week!
